Very good addon…
…but I have the same problem like with Insomnia.
About 30 minutes after locking the screen with KeepAwake active wifi stops working and connection is lost (SSH server unavailable). Simply pressing Home (no unlocking needed, just pressing) reestablishes connection…. for another half an hour.
I’ve checked my router settings. When the iphone is unlocked the connection is rock solid, no other anomaly. Clearly the iphone closes wifi link. The effect is independent on push, fetch, dyn or static IP settings.
Any help will be appreciated.

hi,
i will do some test… icoming use the same method and stay alive all day but it use phone part and not wifi
But during that 30 minutes there us network activity ?? because after 30 minutes of inactivity the wifi is automatically suspended…

This effect is independent on the network traffic. No matter what left running on the phone: messenger software, SSH server, Veency connection… Half an hour after the screen becomes dimmed the connection is cut. Even in the middle of the SFTP file transfer!! This is always 30 minutes, no less, no more.
There are very rare reports in the net and some people experience such a behaviour (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/1093021.html) but many do not. Why? Some low level settings? Hardware differences?
I have quite standard configuration. Nothing uncommon running in the background.

hi,
this is (stupid ?) choice of apple… i have not tested but reading apple documentation :
UIRequiresPersistentWiFi
UIRequiresPersistentWiFi (Boolean) specifies whether the application requires a Wi-Fi connection. iPhone OS maintains the active Wi-Fi connection open while the application is running.
Value
Description
YES
iPhone OS opens a Wi-Fi connection when this application is launched and keeps it open while the application is running. Use with Wi-Fi–based applications.
NO
(Default) iPhone OS closes the active Wi-Fi connection after 30 minutes.
so if you manualli edit info.plist of the application of your interest and add UIRequiresPersistentWiFi as YES you should solved your problem
Please, leave here a feedback if you try this

This settings unfortunately does not work. Adding:
UIRequiresPersistentWiFi
to Info.plist of any application doesn’t change anything in the network behaviour. 20 seconds without KeepAwake and 30 minutes with it and the connection is dead.
I’ve done some searching and no-working “UIRequiresPersistentWiFi” seems to be 2.2 firmware bug :(. Take a look:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1802085
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8670763
http://code.google.com/p/iphone-insomnia/issues/detail?id=17#c10
But the strangest part is that I have reports that on some iphones with 2.2 software the 30 minutes timeout doesn’t exist!!!
UIRequiresPersistentWiFi overrides the system wifi turning-off mechanism but it seams that sometimes this mechanism isn’t active. There must be a way to shut it down. Maybe energy management profiles?
With it all voip applications like SIP or IAX clients (Siphone, Sipphone, Fring, SiAX, iTalk…) are simply unusable

Hi,
i have just made a test and on my iphone it work: after 45 minutes i can yet access the files shareed with AirSharing… i dont know why but on mine work all :), also KeepAlive without text garbage.. fw 2.2
March 2nd, 2009
But you unplugged the phone from any of the power source (usb, wall-charger)? While recharging iphone dosn’t switch-off wifi radio (even without KeepAlive).
AirSharing dies after 30 minutes for me (3G, 2.2).
Mystery (quite irritating I have to say).

Yes,only with battery… here 2G, fw 2.2

UIRequiresPersistentWiFi is not working for me. If I keep the iPhone connected with the PC (through USB), it does not loose network connection. However, if I run the app by itself (when the iphone is not connected to the PC) it looses its network connection. Could you let me know how can i fix this?

sorry but i dont know why this happens; apple document say that it must work, have you found nothing with google ?
anyway the 3.0 is almost here and maybe that with new fw your issue is solved
